'Civil War Sunday' Includes Re-enactors, Abe Lincoln and a Fashion Show

Sunday, June 24 is a big day for the Peter Miller House Museum. The Lake Road building, the first in the city to receive an Ohio Historical Marker, will also receive the city’s first Avon Lake Historical Landmark plaque, dedicated by the Avon Lake Historical Preservation Commission.

Bernie Baka, chairman of the Commission, said the Commission was essentially coat-tailing on Civil War day, which runs from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

In addition to the dedication, visitors will hear Abe Lincoln tell his story, listen to Civil War music with guitar, banjo and fiddle and witness Civil War re-enactors including Avon Lake's David Kos. Kos, an will also give a speech.

"We will have about 10 soldiers and will have a musket firing demo," Kos said.  There will also be a cannon present.

Lincoln will be protrayed by Mel Mauer, a member of the Lincoln Presenters Association who is also a member of the Member of Westlake Historical Society & Cuyahoga Historical Round Table.

A Civil War era camp will be set up, complete with tents. 

At 3 p.m. catch a fashion show and see what women were wearing in 1860.

Cake and water will be provide and the Pizza Cutter will sell pizza and soft drinks.
