The first of three major events held at Vin Avon Lake this summer, The All-American Family Cookout, kicks off at 4 .m. on Friday, June 29.
Sponsored by the non-profit Avon Lake Waterfront LLC, with the support of the , the barbecue—which is open to the public—promises a full afternoon and evening of great food and fun. And like the name suggests, the barbecue is a family friendly event.
Local businesses will be providing the food and area organizations will be chipping in as well. Pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, wings will be available for purchase from Avon Lake eateries.
will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, and ice pops; the Eagles Nest (Giant Eagle) will offer face painting; is selling boneless and regular wings; the Avon Lake Early Childhood PTA will sell pizza at its membership table with games/prizes and three bouncy houses; is selling iced coffee and smoothies; the will sell popcorn and peanuts and the Folger House is selling water and ice cream.
Walk the park, enjoy a spectacular view of the lake and sunset while the kids can participate in face painting, play in one of the bounce houses sponsored by the Avon Lake Early Childhood PTA or watch a self-defense demonstration by who will have a booth, as well as Promenade Travel, , Preschool Sports (t-ball, basketball and soccer); the Avon Lake Dance Team and possibly LEAPS Preschool.
The and will have vehicles at the park for visitors to explore.
Pat Kearney of Kidd Productions will provide music and the look for the Smiles for Sophie booth to register for next week’s race.
The event is one of three festivals supported by the Avon Lake Waterfront LLC, a private non-profit organization hoping the festivals will spur economic development.
The next event is the Avon Lake Wine Festival is July 13 and the Avon Lake Heritage Festival is set for Aug. 10. All events are at Veterans Memorial Park on Lake Road at the intersection of SR 83. Festivals are 4 p.m. through dusk.
The Summer Market, another annual tradition, will be at the park July 27.
