Pool opens Saturday, weather permitting

Weather permitting the Avon Lake Ellen Trivanovich pool be open on May 25 and May 26 from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 27. Pool will open if the temperature is above 70 degrees

Wounded Warrior 5k

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

Avon Lake will honor veterans who’ve died at a 9 a.m. Memorial Day service at Lake Shore Cemetery.

The ’s annual Memorial Day parade is Monday, May 27 starting at 10 a.m. at the north parking lot of Avon Lake High School. The parade will head north from the high school onto SR 83 and head west onto Electric Boulevard to Glenview Drive and then back to SR 83.

Immediately following the parade will be comments from city leaders at Veterans Park on Lake Road.

Plant sale at Avon Lake United Methodist Church

The Avon Lake Garden Club will hold its annual Memorial Day plant sale at 8:30 am at the United Church of Christ at 32801 Electric, Avon Lake on Memorial Day, May 27

Ceremony at Avenbury Lakes Lodge

A brief ceremony will be held at the flag pole at Avenbury Lakes Lodge on Memorial Day, May 27, to honor the men and women who have died. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

City of Avon parade, services

The Avon/Avon Lake “David F. Schneider” VFW Post 7035 is hosting the city’s annual parade, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Avon Senior Center, 36784 Detroit Road. The parade will end at Avon Center Cemetery (the southeast corner of SR 83 and Detroit Road.) Veterans are welcome to joining the parade. Those participating will be given an American flag to carry. VFW members will be selling poppies along the parade route.

Following the parade, the VFW will hold a ceremony honoring falling veterans at the Avon Center Cemetery. The ceremony will include a three-volley salute from the VFW honor guard. The Avon High School marching band will perform. Members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hen & Ivy handing out roses at Resthaven

On Memorial Day, The Hen ‘n the Ivy as part of nationwide Memorial Day Flowers program, will set up a stand at Resthaven Memory Gardens to give out roses to visitors. Each visitor will receive one or two roses to place on a headstone to honor someone who served in the United States Armed Forces. If you would like to get involved and help hand out roses please contact the shop.  Flowers are a form of emotional expressions and a single stem placed on a headstone is an appropriate show of respect.

Plant sale

The Avon Garden Club is hosting a plant sale on Memorial Day, May 27 from 8 a.m. – noon at 36774 Detroit Rd., in front of the Little League fields.
