Thanks to Avon Businesses, Groups for Memorial Day Success: Letter

To the Editor:

What a beautiful day this Memorial Day was. I would like to thank ALL the participants in this year Memorial Day Parade. Special thanks to Shannon Scheetz, Sandy and Karli Conrad for helping me start our parade off smoothly.

Thanks to The Mighty Eagles Marching Band and an extra thanks to Steven Papp and Anton Lohn, the trumpeters that followed the VFW to the two additional ceremonies to play Taps. Thanks to Mayor James Smith and his solemn words. Thanks to ALL the Avon Girl and Boys Scouts, the Avon Fire Department and our most helpful Police Department.

Thanks to Avon’s Parks and Recreation Department for setting up the bleachers, and the chairs for our WWII veterans George Bliss, Jim Blue, Bill Zinni, Bob Hoban and Robert DeChant.

Thank you to The Golden Crescent Choir and The Irish Heritage Bag Pipe Band who both performed beautifully.  All the beautiful cars that rolled this year and everyone else that marched. Thanks to all the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and members of the Avon-Avon Lake David F. Schneider VFW Post 7035 that helped make this a special parade.

Thanks to Billy Hricovec from Tom’s Country Place for the luncheon he donated to the VFW Post after the parade. Thank to Coleone’s Pizza and Sub for the donation of the many pizzas to enjoy.

Thanks to ALL the people the came out to watch the parade and stayed for the memorial service that followed. Let us not ever forget the importance of this holiday. Thanks to all our service men and women past and present.
