Tonight's Heritage Festival Cancelled, Rescheduled for Aug. 31

Weather has forced a cancellation tonight; festival rescheduled for month's end.

TheyFriday night's Heritage Festival has been reschuduled.

Due to the anticipated thunderstorms later this afternoon and early evening, Avon Lake Waterfront Corporation has rescheduled the Heritage Festival for Friday, Aug. 31 from 4 p.m. to sunset at Veterans' Memorial Park. 

The festival, which celebrates Avon Lake's history, will feature the including face painting, bounce houses, balloon artistry and caricaturists to some great summer treats, including grilled favorites and sides, kettle corn, ice cream and cotton candy, but it will also serve up an inside look as to how founding families lived in the past.

Festivalgoers can take a free tour of the (the yellow house in Veterans Park) and then hop on shuttle from the park (leaving every ½ hour from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.) down Lake Road to the and experience life in the early 1830s (check out their room sizes). The latter is  considered the city’s oldest building, and enjoy a quilt show.

They can also enjoy a pictorial history of Avon Lake (presented by the Avon Lake Historic Preservation Commission), a show by Kelly's Gang Barbershop Quartet performing at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and meet “Mr. Folger” and tour the Folger Home. Tours run every half hour from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The festival, sponsored by., will also feature an antique auto and boat show and an Abraham Lincoln impersonator.

Food for sale will include:

  • (selling grilled favorites and
  • Kernels by Chrissie (kettle corn
  • Avon Lake Landmark Preservation Society (ice cold drinks and ice cream)
  • (iced coffees and lemonade smoothies)
  • Avon Lake Girl Scouts Troop 51000(cotton candy)
