March Away Hunger with CRS Food Drive
Donations drive sponsored by the Avon Lake Community Council
Avon Lake Community Council is asking neighbors, students, churches, organizations and businesses in Avon Lake to join their community-wide food drive, March Away Hunger, during the month of March, to benefit
“Our organizations individually have always been involved in assisting those in need, running programs, scholarships for youth, etc, in our community,” Marty O’Donnell, president of the Avon Lake Community Council said. “We just decided to pull our resources together to address the community hunger issue noted by CRS.”
The purpose of Avon Lake Community Council is to promote community organizations in Avon Lake through the sharing of ideas, events, and membership for the betterment of the community as a whole.

CRS Executive Director Susan Poole said a strong need remains in Avon Lake. Poole said requests for food assistance in 2011 were up 29 percent from the previous year.
“We packed groceries 3,796 times last year for Avon Lake residents,” Poole said.

Beginning March 1 and continuing through March 30, non-perishable food as well as paper products, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items can be dropped off at one of six collection sites in Avon Lake: The , all , Old Firehouse Community Center, and
Suggested items include:
Canned fruit
Canned meats
Peanut butter and jelly
Cereal
Macaroni and cheese
Hearty soups
Dinner “helpers” – rice and pasta
Paper products – paper towels, tissue, toilet paper
Cleaning supplies – laundry soap, dish soap, bathroom cleaners
Personal hygiene items – shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, disposable razors
