Municipal Pool Will Go to the Dogs Sept. 10

Traditional end of swim is a dog party hosted by Love-A-Stray

For the sixth year in a row, will end its season with a big splash.

Love-A-Stray’s annual "Big Splash" dog party, which marks the closing of the city pool, is Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon-5 p.m at the Ellen Trivonich Aquatic Center in Bleser Park. Proceeds from the event will benefit Love-A-Stray, a no-kill animal service for strays.

All dogs are invited, regardless of their ability to swim. There are plenty of activities, trophies, prizes and food.

Cost is $8 at the door for one person with one dog or $10 for a family (more than one person and/or one dog.)

Love-A-Stray founder Connie Field said this year’s event has a few new features.

“This year we have a doggie concession stand provided by the Grateful Dog Bakery with homemade dog treats and doggie ice cream too,” Field said. “Our concession stand for the humans will have hotdogs, fresh cut fries and funnel cakes. We have lots of great contests, prizes and trophies.”

Contest times are as follows:

  • Little and Biggest Splash.................  1 p.m.
  • Bobbing For Tennis Balls................ 1:30 p.m.
  • Smallest, Tallest and Biggest Dog.....  2 p.m.
  • Dog/Owner Look-A-Like...............  2:30 p.m.
  • Bow Wow Bathing Suit Contest.....  3 p.m.
  • Longest and Shortest Dive...........  4 p.m.
  • Lazy River Race........................... 4:30 p.m.
