What do winter coats, old blenders and used books have in common?
They could all help send eight members of to Rome in July on a missionary trip.
The church held an indoor garage sale on Thursday, offering deals on everything from vintage furniture to jewelry. Church members donated the goods for sale.
Jenny Bzdafka, wife of senior paster Jim Bzdafka and a leader in the children's ministry, was in charge of the sale.
The sale is to help fund the travel expenses for the eight people going, including Jenny Bzdafka and two of the couple's grown children. They are going from July 7 to 21. Group members range in age from 21 to 55 years old.
While in Rome, the group will work with missionaries Brian and Sarah Bennetch's team to help teach conversational English to refugees in the city.
Any merchandise left over at the end of the day was donated to a charitable thrift shop in Lorain, Bzdafka said.
The church announced Friday that it raised about $2,000.
"We were a short way away from our needed funds for our mission trip to Rome, and the rummage sale put us over the top!" Bzdafka said in an email Thursday night. "God provided ... again!"
