Providence House Thanks Avon for Generosity

City residents, businesses have donated more than $250,000 over last 30 years

Providence House gave the city of Avon a big thank-you note at Monday's meeting of .

Karen Goodson, a member of Providence House's board of trustees, presented with a large framed certificate of appreciation at the meeting.

Avon residents and businesses, Goodson said, have given $252,856 to Providence House since its founding in 1981. Providence House is 98 percent privately funded, she said. Out of all the communities in northeast Ohio, Avon ranks sixth in donations.

Providence House is an organization devoted to protecting children in at-risk families. It offers emergency shelter for children in danger of homelessness, abuse or neglect. Long-term education and support is given to help families become more stable. Children all over the greater Cleveland area are helped.
