Relay For Life Raises Money, Spirits

Thirty-two teams spent overnight walking to raise money for the American Cancer Society

This year's Avon/Avon Lake Relay for Life was held at Avon Lake High School's stadium and brought together 32 teams with one goal -- defeating cancer.

The event, held June 4 and 5, is part of the American Cancer Society's biggest fundraising effort. So far, more than $60,000 has been raised, with fundraising efforts continuing through August 31.

In addition to teams walking the track, there was music, entertainment, games, bake sales, raffles and sales of items ranging from car magnets to ice cream, which was perfect on a sultry summery night.
