Three Honored For Volunteer, Projects of the Year: Gallery

The was packed with family and friends of three honored on May 17 for their work in the community.

Linda Moyse , Connor Musial and Gerry Vogel earned Citizen of the Year and Projects of the Year, respectively. They were acknowledged at an dinner by the Community Council, which selected the recipients. 

Rec. Department employee Lisa Goodwin, who nominated Moyse, called the the “savior of the Avon Lake Homecoming Festival,” and former mayor and family friend K.C Zuber spoke of Moyse’s volunteer efforts in the political arena and noted she was an integral part of helping pass the levy for the

Eagle Scout Connor Musial was nominated by his troop leader, Dean Rankin. Musial took the lead on l through the , including securing materials for the project at low or no cost.

“He chose no small task, “ Rankin said. “He wanted to blaze a trail through the woods.”  Rankin said at one point Musial was directing up to 18 volunteers at once to finish the project. Rankin noted Musial managed to pull together “six weeks of labor in one month.”

Assistant Library Director Gerry Vogel authored, which was released last year. Jill Ralston nominated the book, which took three years to complete and features hundreds of photos of a developing Avon Lake. Ralston, who handles public relations for the library, said she knew the book was a perfect fit for a Project of the Year award and lauded “Gerry’s vision of preserving the history of Avon Lake.

The annual awards are given on behalf of the Community Council, which is currently made up of 28 Avon Lake civic organizations under the leadership of Marty O’Donnell, who also serves as the president of City Council.

In addition to O’Donnell, Mayor Greg Zilka gave each recipient an official city proclamation and State Representative Matt Lundy awarded each a plaque from the State House.
