With Spring’s Arrival, Relay For Life Kicks Into High Gear

Events for people and pets take place before the June 4 Relay For Life event at Avon Lake High School.

With less than two months to go before the Avon/Avon Lake Relay For Life kicks off on Saturday, June 4, fundraisers are picking up steam. The Relay is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Volunteers spend the night walking the track and raising funds.

On April 17, children gathered at the Avon Lake High School for pictures with the bunny and an Easter egg hunt. The event was the latest for the Relay, a 24-hour event that is returning to Avon Lake High School this year. Last year’s Relay was held at the Crusher’s stadium in Avon.

On May 15, mark your calendars for the third annual American Cancer Society Bark For Life Dog Walk at Kopf Family Reservation. This is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Pre-register your canine friend (or yourself) for $10, you’ll receive a Bark For Life canine bandana and a goodie bag. Registration on the day of the event s $20.

The event begins with dog contests including largest dog, smallest dog, best dog trick and "cutest" ugly dog. For a small donation, you can buy dog and people treats or have your pooch’s nails clipped.

Relay For Life will be held from June 4 at 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. on June 5 at the Avon Lake High School Stadium. More information can be found at Relayforlife.org/Avonlake.
