Avon Football Luau, Taste of Calvary, Steak Fry and More: 5 Things this Weekend

Here's 5 things to consider this weekend.

Everybody's working for the weekend. And now that it's here, we're presenting you with the Westshore edition. Here's 5 things to consider this weekend:

  1. The Westshore Mother of Twins Welcome Back Social. Pregnant and parenting parents of multiples (and their kids) are welcome to the WMOTC Welcome Back Social on Sunday, Aug. 18 at Weiss Park. Face painting and simple activities will keep little ones entertained and the large playground can accommodate all ages, from crawlers to climbers. Hotdogs and a vegetarian option will be served, and cold beverages are also provided. Bring a side dish or dessert to share. The Playground Pavilion reserved, but please plan to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs.
  2. Taste of Calvary is Saturday. Taste of Calvary is a festival of food, music and family that's open to the public. Event will feature bands, sample and  vote for the hottest and best in the Chili and Salsa contest, local vendors and Romp-n-Stomp, bringing the fun for little ones with inflatables, games, treats and more. Click on link for ticket information.Ticket price includes live bands, chili and salsa tasting, games, inflatables, drinks, desserts and more. Food trucks will be on hand with pizza and pulled pork sandwiches for purchase.
  3. The Avon Football Luau is Sat. Aug. 17. starting at 6 p.m. at Fountain Bleau in Avon Lake. Join the Avon Eagles Football as they kick off their 2013/14 season with their third annual Luau Reverse Raffle. This event is open to the public. Tickets are $50 for dinner with ticket to the main board, $90 for dinner for two with ticket to the main board, and $45 for dinner only.  Donations are being accepted as well.  Tickets will be paperless via email and phone.   4. Steak Fry at the Post. Sat., Aug. 17 starting at 5:30 p.m. 10 oz Choice Cut Sirloin Steak, Baked Potato, & Salad Only $10 cooked your way and served by  Veteran members. THe public is welcome. Get your tickets in advance at the American Legion Post 211. 31972 Walker Rd. Avon Lake behind Learwood Square.
  5. Neighborhood Alliance is hosting the Champions for Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 16 at Legacy course at Sweetbriar Golf Club located at 750 Jaycox Road in Avon Lake. The 18-hole scramble raises funds to support Neighborhood Alliance in its mission to deliver comprehensive services that meet the basic needs of each client throughout every stage of their lives. The cost for a foursome is $700- less than the cost to shelter an individual at is Neighborhood Alliance’s Haven Center per month.
