It's Avon Lake's big weekend: Homecoming. Here's a lineup of events. Check back as we add to the list.
Rotary Club Pizza Bakeoff : Come hungry to the all-you-can-eat Avon-Avon Lake Rotary Club Great Pizza Bakeoff 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Avon Lake High School Commons (175 Avon Belden Road) before the homecoming bonfire. $10 for adults, $5 for 12 and under. Vote for your favorite vendor: Antonio’s, Cici’s, Coleone’s, Domino’s, Doughboy’s, Marco’s, Romeo’s and Pizza Hut. Students from the culinary program at the Lorain County JVS will once again offer dessert pizzas.
Bonfire: The traditional bonfire will include representatives from sports teams, cheerleaders and members of the Avon Lake marching band. Immediately following the Rotary Pizza Bakeoff on Thursday, Sept. 26
Avon Lake Football: The Shoremen take on the Berea-Midpark Titans on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Avon Lake Memorial Stadium.
Homecoming Parade: Floats! Bands! Homecoming Court! The parade will take off on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. from Bleser Park. It will follow the traditional route of Glenview to Parkview to Redwood to SR 83 and conclude at the high school.
Folger Home Dedication: The historic Folger Home in Bleser Park will be formally dedicated as an Avon Lake landmark at noon on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Homecoming Fair: Avon Lake High School, Saturday and Sunday at Avon Lake High School. The start time for Saturday, Sept. 28 is 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 29 is 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Festival will be placed in the north and south hallways off the Commons area.
Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast: Join neighbors, friends and alumni at the bi-annual Avon Lake Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast in the ALHS Commons. Sausage, juice and all-you-can-eat pancakes starting at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $5 pre-sale/$6 door for adults and $2 children 11 and under (under 4 eats free).
