Need to Get Out? BIG WEEKEND FOR EVENTS

Kids resales, Alzheimer's Walk, marker ceremony for service and more.

Saturday, Sept. 21 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon. Walks will be held across the country to raise awareness for the 5.4 million people with Alzheimer's nationwide. Registration begins at 8:30 AM.

Enjoy dozens of event festivities throughout the Stadium, including a Kids Zone, and then walk for one or three miles in a united effort to end Alzheimer's. The event also serves to educate the community about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment and support programs, and services of the Alzheimer's Association. Big Trucks

This year’s Sept. 21 annual “Big Trucks “ event in Avon Lake again promises to provide an array of activities for children and their parents focused on safety...and big vehicles. Big Trucks features vehicles galore including fire and police vehicles, theMetroHealth Life Flight helicopter, an Army Humvee, a Coast Guard patrol boat, SWAT vehicle, a  bomb squad truck, street sweeper, leaf vacuum truck, excavator, chipper and more. Big Trucks is from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Avon Lake Safety Center on Walker Road. Admission to Big Trucks is free.

Clams & Cars, Clam bake, Car Show supporting Neighborhood Alliance

Clams and Cars is a clam bake, car show, and family fun festival sponsored by Jenni Juggs, Avon/Avon Lake Rotary and Heidelberg Distribution. All proceeds benefit Neighborhood Alliance. Food, refreshments, raffle baskets, a cruise-in of classic cars to view, and plenty of activities for children. Tickets are $30 for adults and include a dozen clams, chicken, clam chowder, salad and more. $10 for children. Beer and wine are available for extra charge.  

Dedication of the Blue Star Memorial

Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club with the cooperation of The City of Avon Lake will host The Blue Star Memorial Dedication Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 22 at at 1 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Park (at Lake Road and RT.83) in Avon Lake. The Blue Star Memorial Program has been in existence through the garden club movement for more than 65 years and places markers on highways and byways in honor of our nation's past, present and future Armed Forces. Numerous local businesses, organization and individuals donated for the plaque. Reception following the ceremony at the Lake House.

AECPTA Kiddie Kloset

ooking for an additional stroller or clothes for the little ones and you don’t want to break the bank shopping? Those items and many more can be found at the 15th Annual Avon Early Childhood PTA Fall Kid’s Kloset resale event Sept. 21 at Avon High School (37545 Detroit Road, Avon).

The Early Bird sale ($5 admission fee) is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; General Sale ($2 admission fee) hours are from 9 a.m. to noon.

Avon St. Mary Youth Mass, Bonfire, Backpack Blessing

Join other families at St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center (4076 Case Road, close to Detroit Rd.) on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.  to celebrate the first TGIF (Together Growing in Faith) Youth Mass of the school year. Bring your backpack to receive a special blessing for the school year and stay following Mass for a bonfire and s'mores. Kids  can play and spend time with other area families. S'mores provided, please bring a dessert to share.

Looking for a bargain on children’s clothes? This Saturday,

, 8 a.m. to noon. More than 40 families are selling gently used maternity, baby and kid’s clothing, toys and equipment. Homemade
