City of Avon Lake - Engineering Department

Flag as Inappropriate

The Avon Lake Engineering Department manages the design and construction of city projects, improving the infra-structure and ensuring proper construction in subdivisions' right-of-way. The offices are located on the first floor of City Hall, to the left of the building's front doors.

City Engineering Manager Joe Reitz heads the Engineering Department. Several years ago Reitz began a campaign to clean up the city's waterways which drain into Lake Erie. His creation, "Al the Alligator" has become a fixture in Avon Lake and often accompanies Reitz when he films clean water segments for Avon Lake Cable Television or speaks at public engagements on stormwater safety. Reitz's stormwater management program, which includes "do's and don'ts" such as what can and cannot be put into storm drains and proper disposal of contaminants, has become a model for other cities in Ohio. He was honored in 2009 honored with the David C. Sweet Distinguished Alumni Award for administrative service. The award is given annually by Cleveland State University's Leadership Academy.
