Eastview Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in Avon Lake welcoming students from kindergarten through fourth grade. Graduates move to Troy Intermediate School and then to Learwood Middle School before attending Avon Lake High School. The school puts an emphasis on academics and community service and in 2010 was ranked No. 13 of all schools in Ohio by the State Board of Education's Performance Index. The school maintains an active PTA that meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:15am in the school cafeteria. Principal Mike Matthews believes civic mindedness is an important part of its informal curriculum. Students support the USO drive and recently sent over 50 care packages to Afghanistan. Students also spend a weekend each year cleaning up the ALPS playground. The school was one of several that had major renovations and expansions in 2010. Its mascot is Pepper Penguin.
