Kopf Family Reservation

Kopf Family Reservation was created when a group of residents banded together in the early 2000s with the intention of preserving the woodlands off Armour Road and Electric Boulevard. The group named the project "Save the Woods."

The city of Avon Lake, in conjunction with the Lorain Country Metro Parks, began purchasing small lots (including a large portion of land owned by Kopf Developers), which was originally intended for development. The result became a dense forest with walking and bike trails.

In 2008, the Metro Parks formerly dedicated the 162-acre park as the Kopf Family Reservation. This park is a favorite for walkers and joggers due to 3.2 miles of scenic paved and packed gravel trails, a creek and plenty of deer. Park benches line the Armour Road Trail and visitors can see a diversity of trees, including maple, elm, ash, cherry and willow, as well as a host of wildlife in the forest.

The park offers tours, nature hikes and tram rides in the winter. Visitors to the park can view more than four dozen deer, mostly active at dusk, throughout the park's two loops. The park is essentially comprised of two sections with Belle Road Park nestled between the two. The park is accessible by Belle Road and Electric Boulevard. Parking is available at the Avon Lake Public Library, which has an entrance to the park in the rear lot.
