Learwood Middle School

Learwood Middle School enrolls students in seventh and eighth grades. In 2008, the school was named a "No ChildMore Left Behind Blue Ribbon School." 

Learwood boasts a healthy music, academic and sports curriculum, with most students moving on to Avon Lake High School. The school is very involved in the community, and students take an active part in volunteering at various venues in the city.

The school maintains a sizable campus on Lear Road that includes several soccer fields that are used for tournaments. Learwood's principal is Jane Ramsay. Brad Cocco is the assistant principal. 

Troy Intermediate School

Troy Intermediate serves as Avon Lake's public school for students in fifth and sixth grades. It receives studentsMore from four elementary schools in the city and prepares them to move on to Learwood Middle School. The school maintains a number of intramural sports and student clubs. Active in Avon Lake, the school strives to have students involved in the community through food drives and visits with the elderly. Kelli Cogan is the school's principal.
Avon Lake Baptist Church

Avon Lake Baptist Church is located on Lear Road directly across from Learwood Middle School. This is a sizable buildingMore with ample parking in the rear of the church. The church holds Sunday services at 11am and 7pm. Sunday school is at 9:45am. Avon Lake Baptist Church holds a prayer meeting each Wednesday at 7pm.
Avon Lake School District

These are the district offices for the administration of the Avon Lake School District, including Superintendent RobertMore D. Scott and Treasurer Denise J. Holcomb. The district's board of education meetings are held in the media center. Current board of Education members are Ron Jantz, Charles M. Froelich, Pamela Ohradzansky, Dale Cracas and Greg Palmer. Schools serviced by this district are Avon Lake High School, Troy Intermediate School, Learwood Middle School, Westview Elementary, Eastview Elementary, Erieview Elementary, Redwood Elementary, The St. Joseph School, Lorain County JVS and LEAPS. Eastview Elementary School

Eastview Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in Avon Lake welcoming students from kindergarten throughMore fourth grade. Graduates move to Troy Intermediate School and then to Learwood Middle School before attending Avon Lake High School.  The school puts an emphasis on academics and community service and in 2010 was ranked No. 13 of all schools in Ohio by the State Board of Education's Performance Index. The school maintains an active PTA that meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:15am in the school cafeteria. Principal Mike Matthews believes civic mindedness is an important part of its informal curriculum. Students support the USO drive and recently sent over 50 care packages to Afghanistan. Students also spend a weekend each year cleaning up the ALPS playground. The school was one of several that had major renovations and expansions in 2010. Its mascot is Pepper Penguin. 
Westview Elementary School

Westview Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in Avon Lake with students from kindergarten throughMore fourth grade.

Westview graduates move to Troy Intermediate School and then Learwood Middle School before attending Avon Lake High School. This is one of several schools that had major renovations and expansions in 2010. Westview is also the home of the city's Safety Town, which teaches young children rules of the road and safety. 

Paul Holland is the principal of Westview. Each year, students hold a reading contest with the winners earning the right to throw a pie at the principal. 

In 2010, Westview was one of several Avon Lake Schools involved in a district-wide expansion program, including expansion of the cafeteria, the addition of two new classroom and updates to the entrance area as well as a new traffic circle.

Holy Spirit Parish

Holy Spirit Parish, founded in 1965, was named in honor of the patron of the Second Vatican Council, and helps serveMore a good portion of Catholic worshippers in Avon Lake and surrounding communities, including western Cuyahoga.

The church originally celebrated Liturgies at Learwood Middle School until the original building was completed in 1967. 

The church, one of only a few round Catholic churches,  sits on 9.6 acres on the corner of Walker and Lear roads and maintains a large parking lot.

Unique to the church is the "Holy Spirit window" above the altar.  According to the church's website, the  seven red rays featured represent the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Counsel, Understanding, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord fused into souls at Baptism and strengthened through the sacrament of Confirmation.

The church rectory was completed in 1973. Holy Spirit's Fr. Mosovsky Hall is often the site of social and community gatherings. In 2002, a new parish center was completed, including the Chapel of the Holy Family. Fr. Mosovsky Hall was also renovated at this time.

The church maintains a broad spectrum of ministries including caring ministries, bereavement, celebrating, evangelizing, music, teaching and participating ministries.

Fr. James H. Beatty has been serving as pastor since 1994.
