Erieview Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in Avon Lake that feeds into Troy Intermediate School.More Erieview was a pilot school for ActivBoards and was one of seven schools in the world to receive the Torchlight Award from Promothean, the company that sells ActivBoards. Major renovations to the school began in 2010, and include additional classrooms, an expanded cafeteria and an upgraded playground area. Carl Bosworth is the principal.

Avon Lake Public Library has traditional library services and partners with various institutions, suchMore as the Avon Lake Schools, the Lorain County Metro Parks, Avon Lake Community TV and civic organizations.

Greatly expanded in 1994, the 54,000-square-foot library sits on a beautiful wooded lot, provides 200 free parking places and meets the Kopf Family Reservation of the Lorain County Metro Parks on its south side.

For the past two years, the Library has been designated a "Top 10" HAPLR library in its service population category, according to Hennen's American Public Library Ratings. People visit the Library more than 250,000 times each year. The library is supported by both state and local funding. 

One of the library's more popular -- and unique -- features is DiscoveryWorks, a 3,200-square-foot area that features science-based hands-on exhibits for children. DiscoveryWorks is divided into areas for two age groups: infants through 7 years old and "tweens."

St. Joseph Catholic Church

St. Joseph Catholic Church's parish is home to almost 1,800 families of worshippers, making it one of theMore largest on the North Coast.

The church, and its affiliate school, St. Joseph School, have undergone several expansions over the years, including a new acoustically advanced church, completed in 2000. The church was expanded to accommodate the growing parish and now seats 1,300.

St. Joseph is the only Catholic church in Lorain County with a Sunday evening Mass.

The church maintains numerous outreach groups, including the Bereavement Ministry, Bereavement Support Group, Ladies Guild, Pro-Life Group, St. Vincent DePaul Society and numerous "Faith Formation" programs, including Parish School of Religion (PSR), Pre-Baptism Program, RCIA Team (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) and the RCIC Team (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children).

The church is led by Fr. Tim O'Connor. Sunday Masses are rebroadcast on Avon Lake Community Television.

Community Resource Services

Community Resource Services is a privately run, non-profit agency that assists families and individuals in need inMore Avon and Avon Lake. CRS provides emergency aid, information, referrals and advocacy, transportation for senior citizens as well as help and support for families in need. The agency, working under the motto, "People Helping People," relies heavily on donations and the efforts of volunteers.

The organization has become a mainstay in the community as a resource for those in need. CRS just expanded its offices to include more storage for items to be donated. Its signature fundraising event is the annual charity ball, held each January. Other events, including the Buckeye Bash are held throughout the year. CRS represents the Salvation Army in Avon and Avon Lake. To locate CRS' offices go behind the building that house the Post Office and Pizza Cutter. Look for the red, white and blue heart.

St. Joseph School

One of the largest Catholic schools in the area, St. Joseph School expanded in the late 1990s to accommodate theMore demand for an increased number of students.

The school's mission statement says it "models itself on the mission of Jesus Christ, striving to form compassionate young people who excel as Catholic Christians." The school focuses on spirituality, academics and extra-curricular activities to "create disciples who are the hands, voice and heart of Christ."

The school maintains smaller classrooms, with an average class size of 22 students. More than 80 percent of the school's junior high students participate in an accelerated math program and the school's Power of the Pen team regularly wins accolades at the local, regional and state levels of the competition.

In addition to its focus on religion, the school is known for solid academic achievement. St. Joseph School is wireless and each class has an ActivBoard.
