American Greetings Move to Westlake May Mean Big Boost for Avon Realtors, Developers

Avon a prime location for employees looking to relocate

A brand-new 700,000-square-foot headquarters and 3,000 jobs, plus $100 million in spin-off development equal very good things for Westlake, Avon and Avon Lake.  Following American Greetings announcement that it will be relocating to Westlake’s Crocker Park in 2014 -- and bringing a whole lot of money, development and jobs with it -- real estate agents and politicians alike have eagerly discussed how their respective cities and the region at-large can leverage the many opportunities that the greeting card giant will bring.  Dick Sweda, an Avon Realtor who owns The Sweda Group, has been assessing the logistics of the move, and is projecting a high spike in home sales.  “I’ve been in the Avon market as a builder and as a realtor going back …

News Next Door: American Greeting Headquarters Moving to Westlake

American Greetings plans to move its world headquarters to Westlake by 2014, bringing thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in spin-off developments.

American Greetings just put Westlake on the map.  Following today’s announcement that the greeting card giant will move from Brooklyn to the far-west suburbs in 2014, new details have emerged that reveal the wide scope and vision of the project.  American Greetings plans to build a 700,000-square-foot world headquarters next to Crocker Park. And to capitalize on the move, the city of Westlake and Stark Enterprises plan to expand the mixed-use, outdoor mall through a  $100 million retail development that would include a hotel, parking garage and other civic spaces and public improvements, media communications manager Patrice Sadd said.  Project officials say the spin-off development will create more than 3,000 job. Tournament at Bob-o-Link a Benefit for Family of American Greetings Worker

The warm, rain-free weather Friday morning and afternoon was a gift from Shelly Spahnie. At least that's what some of her friends and colleagues at American Greetings Interactive said Friday at Bob-O-Link Golf Course as they participated in the Koala Open, a benefit golf tournament they hold for the two sons of Spahnie, who died in April of 2007. "Every year since we began the tournament (in 2008), we have amazing weather for it,"said. Sally Schriner, president of American Greetings Interactive. "She's watching over us," chimed in Jeanne Moser, Schriner's assistant who was in charge of coordinating volunteers for the event.
