Dolce Wraps Bringing Mediterranean Food to Avon Commons

Hummus, tabouli, felafel and meat dishes on the menu.

Dolce Wraps, which serves Mediterranean-based food, will be opening in Avon Commons, owner Farah Lahham said this week. “We’re hoping to open in the next four weeks, but we’ll see,” he said. The eatery, which will seat 40 indoors, is going in to the space formerly occupied by Hot Dog Heaven. Lahham founded Dolce Wraps, which also operates a location in Fairview Park. “The name includes “wraps,” but we’ll also serve other Middle Eastern items such as hummus, tabouli, felafel and salads,” Lahham said. Lahham said food would be made to order including sautéed fresh vegetables with chicken or steak and a choice of sauce. Ordering will be done at the counter and immediately prepared. Dolce Wraps will also offer a selection of vegan items. “This…

Nighttime ATV Riders Get Police Attention

The following arrest information was provided by the Avon Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police were called to a home in the 3400 block of Pelham Place three times over the weekend as the residents said ATV drivers were out in the fields behind their home at night, making noise and yelling obscenities. They were gone by the time police arrived the first two times, but police saw what appeared to be flashlights in the field on the third visit, around 1:45 a.m. on March 31. Officers were not able to catch up with the ATV drivers. Two women were arrested for theft after store security spotted them leaving Kohl’s in Avon Commons with stolen merchandise around 5:21 p.m. on March 30 and called Avon police. After leaving Kohl’s, their car was spotted by Avon police outside Target as one of the women was seen heading into the store.  …

Black Friday Slowly Becoming Black Thursday

Some national retail stores are moving the annual shopping spectacle to late Thursday night.

If Black Friday starts any earlier, it will be Black Thursday. Several big retail chains in Avon, including Best Buy, Kohl’s, Old Navy and Target, are kicking off the annual day-after-Thanksgiving shopping holiday at 12 a.m. Friday. Wal-Mart is beginning its door-buster deals at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. “We need to keep our foot in the door with our competition,” said a customer service manager at Kohl’s in Avon Commons who wished not to be identified. Caribou Coffee is taking it a step further. “This year we’ll be opening at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday,” said Shannon Masters, store manager. Masters said Black Friday is always the highest grossing sales day at the store, which was pushed to open on Thursday this year after the big-box …

It is a shame that folks can't spend time with their families, what the Thanksgiving and Christmas season should be about. You won't find me at the stores this weekend, or any weekend day after Thursday. Too much hassle and too many crowds. I feel for the folks dealing with all the shoppers.   more ›

Five Below Plans October Opening in Avon Commons

Store for teens sells items for $1 to $5

Preteens and teens looking to buy anything from school gear to clothes to room décor for $5 or less will be in luck come October when Five Below opens in Avon Commons. The 7,000-sq. ft. store will be located at 35852 Detroit Road, next to Old Navy and partially in its neighbor's downsized spot, said Liz Romaine, Five Below's director of marketing operations. “We're aiming for an early October opening. We're hoping Oct. 7, but that's subject to change,” she said, depending on how construction goes. Romaine said the response from city officials regarding the business coming to Avon had been so favorable that Five Below staff were able to move up the grand opening date, which was originally slated for November. The company has been eying the …

Five Below, Jimmy John's, Menchie's Readying for Avon Openings

New businesses are filling City Centre, Avon Commons.

Look for several new businesses to be opening up shop in Avon in the coming months. Levin Furniture opened its doors last week. Plans are already underway to construct a Mitchell’s Ice Cream store on Detroit Road across from Heritage Elementary School to be open by November. Goodman Real Estate Services Group also recently leased a 7,649-square-foot space in Avon Commons to discount retailer Five Below. Plans for the store we submitted to the city’s building department this week. The space will be carved out of the current Old Navy location. Old Navy is remodeling and downsizing many of its stores nationwide, including Avon. Five Below locations already open in Northeast Ohio include Rocky River, Strongsville and a soon-to-be store opening…

Levin Furniture Holds Grand Opening

New store is first for Levin in Lorain County

Levin Furniture held its official grand opening ceremony at its new Avon Commons store Friday afternoon. The store fills a space left vacant since Linens-N-Things closed in 2008. Levin Furniture president Robert Levin, other company officials, and Avon mayor Jim Smith were on hand for the celebration, which included a ribbon-cutting. Stephanie Gould of Avon came to check out bookcases. "I've shopped Levin before and I like them," she said. "They're good to have here in town. I like what I've seen so far, so I think I'll be back." The store currently employs 28 people, said regional manager Brian Violi, about half of them being new hires and half being employees transferred into Avon from other Levin stores. There are still openings for …

Levin Furniture Coming to Avon Commons

Store to occupy former Linens-N-Things space

Considering a couch? Come this summer, you'll have another option in town. Levin Furniture has submitted plans for its new store at Avon Commons, taking the space where Linens-N-Things was. The store is expected to open in July, said Robert Levin, president of Levin Furniture. At 37,500 square feet, this is a smaller store for Levin Furniture, about half the size  of some of the Pittsburgh-based business' larger stores. The Avon Commons store will focus on best-selling lines such as Lane, Broyhill and Cindy Crawford Home.  People want furniture that reflects their style, so there will be an emphasis on customization, from upholstery to wood finishes. "We work with vendors who can ship quickly, so we can turn around an order within three to…

We are very excited , have been Levin customers for 20 years. Hopefully they will have what we want and I don't have to drive to the Olmstead or middleburg store. Too bad they couldn't make that a 2 story store. It looks big enough from the outside. Not a fan a tall ceiling stores, it's wasted space. But all in all still happy they are moving here.   more ›
