Avon Early Childhood PTA Welcomes Members

Next meeting is Sept. 11

The Avon Early Childhood PTA (AECPTA) kick off meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Heritage North Library. New members are always welcome. The AECPTA will provide free onsite babysitting for members during the meeting for members. General meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month (September-May) at 7 p.m. “We currently have 175 members and we became a PTA in 2007,” leader Christy Shula said. “It was a Parents’ Club before. The club has a variety of events throughout the year from field trips to Kids’ Parties and Mom’s Night Out activities. Two upcoming activities include the AECPTA Fall Fundraiser on Saturday Oct. 13, 2012 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Bullfrog's Sports Cafe in North Ridgeville for $20 per person (…

Sports, Fish Fry on This Week's Calendar

Here's what's going on this week

Spring sports at Avon High School are off and running this week. One of the highlights is the baseball team hosting Westlake at 4 p.m. Monday at All Pro Freight Stadium. As Lent winds down, you're running out of chances to enjoy a Friday fish fry. Check out Holy Trinity's fish fry from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. In addition to the classic fried perch, it also has baked fish, shrimp and pierogies. With this recent warm spell, did you find out that your children need new spring and summer clothes? Find bargains at Saturday's Avon Early Childhood PTA Kids Kloset Resale at Avon High School. Springtime also means its road race season. Breakfast with Santa a Holiday Treat

Santa stopped by Avon East to have breakfast and meet Avon's youngsters, courtesy of the Avon Early Childhood PTA.

That Santa fella sure is busy this time of year. Saturday he was at Avon East Elementary School for the Avon Early Childhood Parent Teacher Association’s Breakfast with Santa, an annual fundraiser that usually yields about 700 Santa-seers, said ECPTA member Mariko Weaver “We probably raise between $2,000 and $3,000 dollars,” said Weaver, who co-chairs the event with Jen Williams. “At the end of the year, the ECPTA gets together and donates whatever money we have left to local charities.” Did you bring your child to meet Santa? Holiday Fun is on Weekend Agenda: Five Things

Need something to do this weekend?

Take some time for family fun at Hope Family Christmas from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Hope Christian Church. The free event will feature face-painting, crafts, Christmas-themed games and prizes, a family picture station and a visit from Santa Claus. Kids need more quality time with Saint Nick? They can also see the big guy at Saturday's Avon Early Childhood PTA Breakfast With Santa at Avon East Elementary. Admission is $7. A cherished Lorain County fall tradition is back! The Woollybear Festival is Sunday in downtown Vermilion.
