Shoremen Harriers miss states, but finish with one of best seasons since 1994.
Last week the Shoremen cross country team, which was ranked eighth in the state, beat No. 21-ranked St. Edward (59) at the Northeast Ohio Division I District meet at Lorain County Community College and picked up its first district crown since 1994. Hopes were high the momentum would carry over to this week, with a return trip to state as a team as the prize. On a brisk morning, at a course that has been unpredictable over the years at Hedges Boyer Park, the team placed fifth out of sixteen teams and fell just short of that dream. Brunswick just edged them 154 to 156 points, while the favorite to win it all in Columbus, St. Ignatius took home the team title with 69. But all was not lost, as Trevor Norris put together one of the best days in…

Connor Musial leads project to finish 1/2-mile cross country course near high school
An Avon Lake High School student athlete combined his love for cross country sports and his commitment to scouting in a way that benefits the entire community. Connor Musial, one of the team captains for the Avon Lake High School boys cross country team, completed his Boy Scout Eagle project by coordinating a team of volunteers to build a new half-mile cross country running course through the woods on the east end of the high school grounds. Musial is a member of Scout Troop 334, out of the Lake Shore United Methodist Church on Electric Boulevard in Avon Lake. “I knew the high school track coach wanted to put a new track in back of the high school property for a long time,” Musial said. “When he started looking into the process this year…
