ALYBF is selling customized bricks and looking for people with knowledge of past athletes.
To most people, $150,000 isn’t chump change. But Jon Leonard, Avon Lake Youth Baseball Federation president, sees it both ways. “We’re still in the same ballpark that we anticipated,” Leonard said of the projected budget of the concession stand complex his federation is building at Weiss Field, slated to be completed by opening day this May. The building, which Leonard described as “state of the art” last July, will have two 450 sq. ft. pavilions, bathrooms, a storage room, a multi-purpose room for umpires to change and an electrical room with the capacity to add a lighting and irrigation system to the fields in the future. But even though the project is on budget, Leonard said the ALYBF, a 501(c)3 organization serving about 1,300 kids …

In the end, the Dodgers, coached by Mike Kovacs, upset the Tigers to take home the crown. The Tigers held a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning, but scored two runs to tie things up. The Tigers then took a one run lead into the sixth inning, but that's when the Dodgers came up big. Kyle Blazina hit a triple off the left field fence to clear the bases and give the Dodgers an 8-5 lead. The Tigers seemed poised to make a game of things in the last half of the inning, but the Dodgers defense proved to be too much. Chris Skelly made the first out with a nice diving play and a shot to …

New building would feature bathrooms, an umpire changing room
Noting that it was more cost effective to demolish and rebuild a new, expanded concession stand than repair the current one at Weiss Field, the Avon Lake Youth Baseball Federation is agreeing to pay for a new, improved building. Federation president Jon Leonard said the new building, if approved, would include a pavilion, bathrooms and a concession stand as well as patios on the east and west end of the building. The new building would be in the same location as the old one. “As many of you know the concession stand is in pretty bad shape,” Leonard told members of the city’s Public Service Committee during a July 11 meeting. “From a city perspective this is a win-win.” The plans include electrical and storage rooms and an umpire room for …
