Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. Bank robber proves pen is mightier than gun Steven C. Dagostine, 43, of Tallmadge, was charged Feb. 26 with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, in connection with a Huntington Bank heist in Cuyahoga Falls. Fortunately, police did not have to track him down as Dagostine was already being held in Summit County Jail on a separate robbery charge. On Feb. 24, Dagostine allegedly walked into the Giant Eagle-Huntington Bank, handed the teller a note demanding money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. …

Safe was stolen following a May 29 break in. Cleveland man with long criminal history suspected in case.
Barely two weeks after its grand opening in Avon, Mitchell’s Ice Cream received an unwelcoming surprise when a burglar broke in and stole a safe from the store. The safe, minus cash, was recovered by the Westlake Police Department in Cleveland last week, while they were investigating a related robbery in their city. Avon police responded to an open side service door on May 29 to Mitchell’s Ice Cream, which opened for business on May 10. Owner Michael Mitchell was notified. One item missing from the store was a metal safe that had cash in it. The safe was recovered days later after Westlake Police, acting on a tip from the Cleveland Police Department, searched the home of Thomas Yafanaro, 48, at E. 55th and Huss in Cleveland. “We suspected …

Smash-and-grab happened at Avalon Jewelers
In the first smash-and-grab style burglary of an Avon business in recent memory, Avon police are reporting about $10,000 in jewelry was stolen from Avalon Jewelers in City Centre last week. Police chief Richard Bosley said Tuesday that the department's detective bureau is now examining security footage to get a clear description of the suspect, who broke into the store early Thursday morning. Smash-and-grab is exactly as it sounds, Bosley explained. The thief broke into the store, smashed a display case, grabbed what he or she could, and got out fast.
