Community Resources Services, a local non-profit agency dedicated to meeting the social service needs of the Avon and Avon Lake communities, is hosting the 5th Annual “Homeruns for Hunger” event on Thursday, June 20 at All-Pro Freight Stadium. Support CRS while watching the Lake Erie Crushers take on the Normal CornBelters at All-Pro Freight Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m. By purchasing your ticket vouchers through CRS you are supporting our food pantry and other emergency assistance programs that directly assist Avon and Avon Lake residents. Collection areas throughout Avon and Avon Lake
Avon Lake Community Council is again asking neighbors, students, churches, organizations and businesses in Avon Lake and Avon to join their second annual communitywide food drive, March Away Hunger, during the month of March, to benefit Community Resource Services (CRS), which provides staple items to individuals and families in need in Avon and Avon Lake. The drive is sponsored by the Avon Lake Community Council. The 2012 March Away Hunger drive brought in 4,158 pounds of food valued at $6,663 for CRS. “It is my understanding that there is a 50 percent drop in federal donations for food pantries, yet the need is increasing for families,” President of Avon Lake Community Council Martin O’Donnell, said. “If we can assist in keeping the …

Avon, Avon Lake basketball games bring in cash, food
Hoops for Hunger, a voluntary effort lead by Avon Lake High School senior Molly Disbrow and members of the schools’ Key Club, raised approximately $1,600 for Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services. Disbrow, and other members of the girls basketball team, presented a check to CRS Director Susan Poole on Jan. 16 during halftime of the Avon-Avon Lake basketball game. Hoops for Hunger also brought in more than 300 cans of food. Money was raised through donations at the Avon vs. Avon Lake boys and girls basketball games Jan. 15 and 16, as well as through the sale of T-shirts. The group set up collection points around Avon and Avon Lake to bring in donations also.

Boxes of donated school supplies and hundreds of dollars were donated Aug 4 for the second annual Kiwanis Kidsfest at Weiss Field. Supplies which are donated to Community Resource Services for distribution to children in Avon and Avon Lake, included crayons, pencils, back packs, notebooks and other needed school supplies. G-Force will headline event, admission is donation of school supplies.
The second annual Back-to-School Kids Fest is this weekend. Last year, more than 2 truckloads of items were collected in an event that proved to be not just a fundraiser, but all kinds of fun for the family. Sponsored by the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club and headed by club vice president Kyle Maurer, the three-hour Kids Event returns to Weiss Field on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. It has all the makings of an outdoor party, down to the bar-b-que, bounce houses, fun, water balloon toss and games. The all-girl band G-Force will again headline. The event is suitable for children 2-10 years old. The event is open to the public, and families from Avon, Avon Lake and surrounding communities are welcome. The event combines good old-fashioned …
Third Annual 5k benefits CRS
CRS and The Avon Lake Sports Hall of Fame have announced the 3rd Annual Erie Shore Wellness Run/Walk on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. This 5K Run and Walk begins and ends at Memorial Stadium at Avon Lake High School. The course includes a scenic loop through Avon Lake’s paved Metropark trails. There will also be a free Kids Fun Run at Memorial Stadium. Registration is $20 for the Run and $15 for the Walk ($25 and $20 on Race Day.) Proceeds from this event will enable CRS to continue its mission of providing basic needs assistance to families in Avon and Avon Lake and will also provide funding to the Hall of Fame committee to continue providing proper recognition for athletes, teams and individuals who are selected for the honor of …

Bounce castles, hotdogs, pizza and games made for a fun summer afternoon out
The July 30 First Kiwanis Back-To-School Kids Fest raised $220.50 in monetary donations, and in-kind donations of school supplies have been valued at $2,374.50, according to Community Resource Services (CRS) Director Susan Poole. Donations went to CRS to assist families needing back-to-school items. "We were pleasantly surprised to entertain a steady stream of families throughout the three hour festival," event organizer Kyle Maurer said. "As expected, the kids loved the activities we had planned, but even better than seeing the smiles on their faces was watching the boxes of donations stack higher and higher." Two truckloads of school supplies collected for CRS
The first year of what is expected to be an annual tradition, the Avon Lake Kiwanis Kids Fest drew more than 200 visitors to Weiss Field July 30. Fair organizer Kyle Maurer estimated two truck loads of school supplies were donated to assist clients of Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services and more than $150 in monetary donation. "CRS will be filling backpacks this week," Maurer said.
