CRS Continuing “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive

Miss the food drive? Trying to keep your donations drive? CRS is still accepting items.

Although Saturday was the official “Stamp Our Hunger” Food Drive, Avon/Avon Lake Community Resources Services (CRS) will continue to collect food at its Avon Lake location on Lake Road. The drive was held by the National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the United States Postal Service, to help provide food to those in need. In 2010, carriers collected more 4,200 pounds of food, which allowed CRS to provide food for over 330 people. “Although it’s too early to report any results, based on the volume of food items waiting to be sorted in our pantry, it looks like this year’s local Stamp Out Hunger collection was a huge success," CRS Director Susan Poole, said. Ringing for a Cause: CRS Need Up 21 Percent in 2010

More than 7,000 received assistance this year.

Frank and Ellen Bolognia of Avon Lake found Christmas Eve afternoon a perfect time for bell ringing in the entranceway of a super-busy Giant Eagle. Plenty of shoppers at the Learwood Plaza location stopped to drop in bills and changes into the trademark red Salvation Army bucket. In Avon Lake, the Salvation Army partners with Community Resource Services to assist Avon and Avon Lake needy. Through the end of November of 2010, CRS provided groceries to more than 7,000 individuals, an increase of 21 percent from 2009. Seventy local families received Christmas assistance and 88 families received Thanksgiving baskets.
