A member of the football team Avon High School is playing in tomorrow's state semi-final died in a car accident on Thanksgiving day. A moment of silence is planned before the game.

Police Blotter: Woman Crashes Car Into House

The following information was supplied by the Avon police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A woman swerved to avoid an animal and ended up crashing into a house. The crash happened around 8:14 p.m. on Oct. 20 in the 2400 block of Center Road. The woman, who ended up having an asthma attack after the crash, told Avon Police that she was heading north on Center Road when some kind of animal ran across the road. She hit the brakes hard, veered to the left, went off the road, struck a pine tree and some shrubs, then hit the house. No charges were filed. Crash on Long Road sends several to hospitals

Minivan struck fence, then tree

Six people, including four children, were taken to area hospitals after a minivan went off Long Road and struck a tree on Tuesday afternoon, requiring ambulances from neighboring towns to be called out. Ambulances from North Ridgeville and Sheffield Village were called in, but Sheffield Village's ambulances were turned back.  Avon police said the accident happened just before 5 p.m. Holly Brunke, 56, of Avon, was heading west on Long Road when she went left of center on a curve, lost control of her minivan, then struck a split-rail fence and a tree at 3888 Long Road. Avon Fire Department said the injured were taken to Avon Emergency Care Center and Fairview Hospital. One of the department's engine trucks was at the crash site to assist. …

Motorist Flown to Hospital After I-90 Crash

Pickup truck appears to have hit car from behind

Updated at 8:42 p.m.: An Avon man was taken by emergency medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland Tuesday afternoon after his pickup truck rear-ended a disabled vehicle in the breakdown lane on Interstate 90 west just before the Route 611 exit. Scott Gibson, 40, was first transported by city fire and rescue workers to Avon Emergency Care, then LifeFlight took him to MetroHealth. A nursing supervisor at MetroHealth had no information on Gibson Tuesday night. Police said Gibson drove his 1996 Ford Ranger pickup off the right side of the road around 3:35 p.m. and hit a 1995 Ford Escort that was parked there after becoming disabled. Domestic violence and snow-related crashes are on the police blotter

A Ford F150 spun out and hit two mailboxes in the 38700 block of Detroit Road around 9 a.m. Tuesday, then took off. The driver was later cited for leaving the scene and reasonable control. Monday's wintry weather led to several spin-outs, crashes and disabled cars. A car drove into the front yard in a home in the 3800 block of Center Road around 12:38 p.m. and hit a pole. One of the city's snowplows got stuck at the end of Moore Road off Colorado Avenue and needed a winch to get free. Someone tried to steal a stove from a Ryan Homes property in the 2400 block of Muirwood Road. Police were notified around 3:45 p.m. Monday.
