The Avon Lake Drama Club leads Erieview students in holiday tunes.
Members of the Avon Lake High School Drama Club, under the direction of Patricia Frank, made a stop at Erieview Elementary School on Dec. 21 to lead the school in several holiday songs, including Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. The festivities were part of the end-of-semester festivities kicking off winter break. The school was also decorated candyland-style. So sit back, enjoy some holiday cocoa and enjoy the sounds of the Drama Club.

What's on you Santa wish list?
Lolamay Stefanik, 94, takes her turn telling Santa Claus what she wants for Christmas. Stefanik, of Avon Lake, was part of the holiday lights bus tour sponsored by the Avon Lake Department of Recreation on Dec. 14. The last stop on the tour, 159 Fay Ave., included a visit with Santa (Jim Garrasch) at the festively lit Garasch house. (See story in tomorrow's Patch regarding the display.) The Garrasch house has been entered into our "Deck the House" competition. Click here to see a photo of the house. What are you asking Santa for Christmas this year? Tell us in the comments.

Decorating your home for the holiday? Show us your favorite piece.
When we decorate our home for the holidays I remind my family of the story around each decoration. One of my favorites is the very first ornament I received from a friend who told me how important it is to build your own collection of holiday ornaments. I was single and had just moved into my own apartment at the time. I had a little Charlie Brown tree and not much to put on it. The little crochet dove she gave me has a musical box in in the back that plays a whiney (albeit not so loudly today) 'It's A Small World.' Another good one is the little house ornament that represented the year we bought our first home in Pennsylvania. We had bought a townhouse and the ornament looked like our home. At the time I worked across from the Moravian …

Winners from the gingerbread contest.
Creativity was the norm at this year's gingerbread house contest featured during Avon's Candlelite Walk weekend. The houses, on display at the Avon Historical Society on the corner of Detroit and 611, were open to the public for review. A winner was announced Dec. 1. First place was awared to Elizabeth Regas who created a "gingerbread barn" complete with a horse head seen in a barn stall. Second place, for a gingerbread village, went to Marissa Lubowicz and third place to Lucy Greaney's house, with a peppermint field. Check back later for pictures from the weekend's events, including Santa in his horse-drawn sleigh being pulled down Detroit Road.
