Coleone’s Teams up with Kiedrowski’s Bakery, Opens for Breakfast

Fresh on the heels of winning the 2012 Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Great Pizza Bake-Off (the shop’s fifth win in as many years), Coleone’s Pizza & Subs is expanding its hours and bringing one of Lorain County’s premier bakery items, Kiedrowski’s Simply Delicious Bakery, to the store. It’s also opening for breakfast. To celebrate, the store is hosting a Grand Opening on Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. featuring a workshop that lets kids participate in a “donut workshop” (where they can frost and decorate their own donuts from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.), live music, free samples and even a visit from Santa (10 a.m. - noon). Best Pizza in Avon and Avon Lake? We’ve Got the Answer

Looking for the best pizza? You may need to head to Avon, where the three winners of this year’s Avon / Avon Lake Rotary Pizza Bake-Off are from. Four the fourth time in five years, Avon’s Coleone’s Pizza has earned the “People’s Choice” award from the Bake-Off, held at Avon Lake High School Oct. 4. Best Pepperoni pizza was from Antonio’s of Avon, a new participant this year. Best Specialty Pizza went to Cici’s (Avon), who served up the winning Mac n Cheese Pizza. Also participating this year were Domino’s, Doughboy’s and Romeo’s pizza shops. More than 660 people came to the all-you-can-eat event hosted by the Avon-Avon Lake Rotary Club. Team Breanna Comes Out in Force for Coleone's Fundraiser

Avon girl has goal of competing in Paralympics

Team Breanna worked Coleone's owner David Wittschen and his staff hard on Wednesday. Coleone's hosted a fundraiser from noon to 8 p.m. Twenty-five percent of the price of all orders went towards Heritage North student Breanna Sprenger's goal of competing at the Jimi Flowers Classic, a Paralympic swimming event in Colorado Springs, Colo. Wittschen said he expected to sell about 600 pizzas for the fundraiser. That's more than twice what is sold on a typical Wednesday. And that doesn't include the pasta, subs and other items sold. During dinner rush, people were cheerfully willing to wait after being told it would be up to an hour for their takeout orders to be ready. Coleone's Looks to Repeat as Pizza Bake-Off Champs

Thursday's Rotary Pizza Bake-Off is an all-you-can-eat pizzafest.

Everyone loves pizza. That may be why the annual Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Great Pizza Bake-Off has become one of the hottest homecoming weekend events in Avon Lake. Admission to the Sept. 29 all-you-can-eat Great Pizza Bake-Off, held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Avon Lake High School Commons, is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age. Tickets are sold at the door. More than 700 pizza enthusiasts attended the 2010 bake-off, according to Frank Krempasky, treasurer of the Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Foundation. “It’s fun for both adults and children. We start the weekend with the Rotary event on Thursday and close with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast on Sunday,” he said. “These are two key student-oriented organizations participating …

Five Things: Social Media, Shredding and Sportswriter

If you've been wanting to learn more about using social media like Facebook and Twitter, check out the class on it at 1 p.m. Thursday at Avon Branch Library. Is paper clutter a problem in your home? Clear it out at Saturday's community shred at City Hall. You can bring up to four bags of boxes of paper, and Shredding Network will unload them and shred them while you watch.
