Former council president given fine, 3-day jail sentence from March arrest.
Former Avon Councilman Clint Pelfrey received a 3-day jail sentence, a $500 fine and had his license suspended for six months after pleading no contest to a drunk driving charge May 31. Pelfrey has retained work driving privileges. Court records indicate a 30-day jail sentence was issued with 27 of those days suspended. Pelfrey initially pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor in Avon Lake Municipal Court. Pelfrey’s lawyer, Dan Wightman, told the Chronicle Telegram his client decided to plead not guilty after they reviewed the evidence against Pelfrey. “He decided he wanted to get the matter over with,” Wightman told the Chronicle Telegram. Two-term Ward 1 Councilman said he is seeking other opportunities.
Ward 1 Councilman Tim Rush, now serving in his second term as Ward 1 councilman, announced last night he would not seek re-election in November. In a prepared statement, Rush said he was “pursuing other interests.” “It’s been a pleasure to serve,” Rush said, as other council members gave him a round of applause. Rush joked he was certain there were a few people out there who would be glad to hear he was not seeking re-election. Councilman Larry Meiners said he often consulted Rush on issues. "Tim and I came on the same time and he's been a sounding board for me," Meiners said. "Having served with him for seven years, his departure will be missed."
