Eleanor L. Taylor, Member of United Church of Christ

She lived in Avon Lake most of her life

Eleanor L. Taylor ( nee Pettengill) 81, of Avon Lake passed away on March 8, 2013 at St. John Medical Center. Mrs. Taylor lived in Avon Lake most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and enjoyed the company of her friends with the diabetic group that met at church. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and family, gardening, ceramics, crocheting and her dog, "Penny." Mrs. Taylor is survived by her three children, Jim (Anne) and Jeff Taylor and Jeanette Smith (Jim) all of Avon Lake; five grandchildren, Mike and Hailey Taylor and Matt, Joe and Maria Smith; brother Larry Pettengill of Delta, OH; and sister Laurine Fry of Jacksonville, FL. Martha Jane Leitzell Ritz, Penn State Grad: Obituary

Mother of Colleen Blalock, Louise Ritz, Patty Van Valey, Ray and Steve Ritz.

 Martha Jane (Marty) Leitzell Ritz, 85, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2013 in her residence in Avon Lake from complications of cancer. Born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, she and her husband were proud graduates of Penn State University, State College. She carried her love of the Nitttany Lions with her throughout her life; her first labrador was named Nittany. Marty and Ray moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida in 1957 where she raised her five children and worked as a teacher at Nova Middle School until retiring in 1991. She began her next life adventure in Fannin County Georgia on Wilscot Creek in the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains where she enjoyed gardening, watching football, knitting, sewing, reading and mostly the peace and quiet…

David Joseph Werner, 42 of Avon formerly of Avon Lake passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. He was born April 1, 1970 in Elyria and had lived in Avon the past 11years. David was a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in psychology. He was a real estate agent and was also a bartender in Cleveland; his family remarked that it was as a bartender that he put his psychology degree to work. David loved nature and being outside. Some activities that he enjoyed included golfing, biking, hiking, fishing, cooking, swimming, skiing, and sledding. David is survived by his wife, Lisa M. Inman-Werner whom he married Oct. 12, 2002. James enjoyed playing cards, traveling, watching the Cleveland Indians, volunteering at Fairview Hospital, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. Dolores M. Cowfer (nee Martin), 67, of Avon Lake formerly of Medina, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. She was born June 29, 1945 in Tarentum, PA and had lived in Avon Lake the past 18 years. Dolores was a graduate of Plum High School, Plum Borough, PA. She worked as an office assistant for Westinghouse in PA and then as a sale representative for Home Interiors. Most recently she worked for a time as a receptionist at the Avon Lake Animal Clinic. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake. She was a crafter and an avid bowler, bowling on leagues in Medina and Avon Lake. Beverly J. Cahill (nee Elliott), 82 of Avon Lake since 1958, formerly of East Cleveland, passed away Feb. 2, 2013 of natural causes. She was born Aug. 1, 1930 in Cleveland. Beverly graduated from Brush High School in 1948. Beverly was a secretary of True Temper for five years. She retired from the American Fork and Hose Division. Beverly was a member of Heights Christian Church, Shaker Heights. She was a duplicate bridge player, a band mom for the Avon Lake High School Band, a gymnastic judge at the high school level, and secretary of the Lorain County Kennel Club. Bernard Johnson of Avon, Earned WWII Victory Medal

Bernard H. Johnson Sr., age 85, of Avon, passed away suddenly on Feb. 4, 2013 at Metro Health Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 16, 1927 in Hartwell, WV and had been a resident of Avon for the past 16 years, moving from Lorain. He served in the US Army and received the WWII Victory Medal. Bernard worked as a bus driver for Greyhound for 28 years, retiring in 1985. He previously worked for B & O Railroad in West Virginia. Bernard loved the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He also enjoyed traveling and wood-working. Elaine Dieterich (nee Gates), 85, of Avon Lake, passed away on Jan. 29, 2013 after a short illness. She was born on June 30, 1927 in Avon Lake. Elaine graduated from Avon Lake High School. She was a head cook for the Avon Lake City Schools for 35 years. Elaine was a member of the Avon Lake Saddle Club and a member of the Lorain County Fair for 50 years. She loved Ireland and her favorite animals included horses and cats. Jean Marie Fadenholz (nee Kenny), 43, passed away on Jan, 30, 2013. Jean graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1987 and worked as a server in various establishments. She was a loving mother to Stephanie and Julie Fadenholz. Survivors include her mother Janet C. (Kolibab); brother John P. Kenny (Michelle); nephew Jackson; niece Willa; former husband Don; and former father-in-law Kenneth J.; grandparents John and Margaret Kolibab; former mother-in-law Sharon; and a friend to many. Arrangements by Busch Funeral Home, Avon Lake. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
