I-90 Reopened After Interchange Construction Worker Killed

Westbound I-90 was closed between Crocker Basset and SR 83.

Updated 2:44 p.m. An interchange construction worker struck by an SUV on I-90 this morning has died, according to the Avon Fire Department. Avon Fire Lt. Eric Dudziak confirmed the 63-year old construction worker was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name has not yet been released. Avon Interchange project manager Don Damyanic said the man struck was working on the new interchange at Lear-Nagle road, which is expected to open later this year. “I believe he was working on the bridge,”  Dudziak said. The man was struck at approximately 9:15 a.m. and taken to the hospital.   Dudziak said two vehicles were involved. “One hit the other,” he said. I have good information that says cel phone was not an issue. The speed limit is 65 in that area of construction. ODOT says they don't lower the speed if the construction zone is less than a 3 mile stretch. This whole thing is tragic and I pray for the construction worker but I also pray for the person driving as he/she was forced into the barrels by someone changing lanes and did not notice them…   more ›

Man Scammed After Walmart Gift Card Bought Had $0 balance.

Missing student, truck stuck on closed road also in this week's blotters

A May 30, a man said a couple sold him a gift card at Walmart in Avon that had a $0 balance. The man reported a 6-foot tall white man in his early 20s with short blond hair with a petite white, brunette female sold him the card. Security footage showed the pair running from the store and leaving the parking lot in a white 4-door vehicle.  Avon police reportedly have the names of two suspected. If arrested, they will be charged with theft by deception. Bradley Road Construction to Close Road for Five Weeks

The intersection at Bradley Road and Naigle Road will be closed from July 25 through Aug. 22.

Bradley Road in Bay Village will be closed at the Lear/Naigle intersection from Monday, July 25 through Aug. 27 for widening and upgrading, according to Dan Galli, Bay Village director of public service and properties. In addition to Bradley road being closed at the railroad tracks, Naigle Road (which is named Krebs Road in Avon Lake, to the west) will be closed at the bridge culvert just west of the intersection. Naigle Road is not the same as Lear-Nagle Road in Avon. “The road is being closed for five weeks because the railroad has to come in and do work on the tracks,” Galli said. “There is a possibility that the railroad work can be done in three weeks, and if it is, we will reopen Bradley Road as soon as possible.
