17 people killed in Ohio during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
In anticipation of increased traffic during the Thanksgiving holiday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding the drivers of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Last year during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, 17 people were killed on Ohio’s roadways with 30 percent related to impaired driving. Last year 27 people were killed due to impaired driving between the Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve Holidays. AAA predicts 43.6 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday, up just 0.7 percent from last year. Judge Michael Bartko registers 0.298 percent blood alcohol.
U.S. Adminstrative Law Judge Michael Bartko of Avon has been arrested and charged with drunken driving after someone called 911 to report a motorist was driving "erratically." The caller told the 911 dispatcher a man was "obviously drunk" driving a black BMW, weaving and going at a slow speed about 12:48 a.m. on Sunday on Lake Road. Officers came to the scene and pulled over Bartko, 54, on Bassett Road, Bay Village Police Lt. Mark Spaetzel said in the Morning Journal. Bartko was arrested and taken to the Bay Village Police Station. Bartko took a breathlyzer test and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.298 percent, surpassing the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
