Marijuana in Car Leads to Charges

The following arrest information was provided by the Avon Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A moment of bad driving proved costly to a man on April 30. Avon police spotted the man driving off the right side of Interstate 90 in the eastbound lanes around 8:46 p.m. After he was pulled over, the man was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Avon police arrested a man for DUI near the intersection of Route 83 and Chester Road around 2:50 a.m. on April 27. David Hamilton, 22, was also cited for stopping in the roadway.

Drunken Driving, Underage Drinking and Amphetamines: Police Blotter

Avon police stopped and arrested a driver for a DUI at the intersection of Detroit Road and Jaycox Road at 3:10 a.m. on April 15. Tyrone R. Cook, 40, is listed on the citation which also includes charges for excessive blood alcohol concentration and a U-Turn violation. Drug paraphernalia, underage drinking Two men were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and underage drinking after being pulled over on the interstate for speeding on April 12 at 5:16 p.m. Michael Cline and Adam Smith, both 20, were pulled over on I-90. Amphetamines found A maintenance worker at Timberlake Townhouses found a baggie with a white-powder substance that tested positive for amphetamines on the morning of April 11. Following Doctor's Orders Would Have Been Wise

The following arrest information was provided by the Avon Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Instead of just a hangover, a man now has a DUI arrest as well after not following medical advice. Avon police were called around 12:19 a.m. on April 10 after staff at EMH Avon Emergency Care Center said an intoxicated man left the building against doctor's advice and without signing any paperwork. The man was seen leaving the parking lot in a silver Ford F-150.  A few minutes later, police pulled over and arrested Steven Hanks, 51, as he was getting onto the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 90 from Route 83.

Ohio County Announced for Saturday Night Sobriety Checkpoint

The specific location of the checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning, the day of the operation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced a drunk driving checkpoint will be set up in Portage County Saturday evening.  The exact location will be announced Saturday morning.  “Based on provisional data, there were 332 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 359 people were killed last year and 7,507 injured in Ohio,” Lt. Nakia Hendrix, commander of the Ravenna Post, said. “State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in combating these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.” The latest checkpoint was in Portage County in Brimfield on St. Patrick's Day. Officers arrested 17 for drunk driving.

Two Women Charged With DUI

The following arrest information was provided by the Avon Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two women face DUI charges after being stopped by Avon police in separate incidents on April 8. Lee Salas, 46, was pulled over on French Creek Road for a marked lanes violation around 2:51 a.m.  She was then charged with DUI as well. Avon police said Caitlin Ritter, 20, was spotted by passers-by asleep at the wheel at the intersection of Schwartz and Nagel Road around 5:49 a.m. They called police, and officers came to the intersection, where she was charged.

Sobriety Checkpoint (Some Time, Somewhere) This Week

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Monday morning that a sobriety checkpoint will be set up soon ... but the place and time has not been announced yet.  The county where the checkpoint will take place will be announced the day prior to the checkpoint and the location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint.
