Miller Road Park filled up with visitors from all over Cleveland's west side for ArtsFest 2011, the city's Fourth of July celebration, on July 3. Residents from Avon Lake, Elyria, Lorain Sheffield Lake and as far away as Iowa, gathered at the lakefront park to enjoy more than exhibits, hear a concert in the evening and catch fireworks over Lake Erie after the sun went down. The State Fire Marshal shares tips on how to stay safe while you're having fun.
Some of the best things about celebrating the Fourth of July are the most dangerous. So, to stay safe this holiday, the Ohio Fire Marshal shared information on how to celebrate without getting hurt. The following information was provided by State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers: Fireworks Safety Other fireworks, like those sold at fireworks stores around Ohio, can be legally purchased in the state, but you must agree to take them out of Ohio to discharge. "You must be at least 18 years of age to buy items such as firecrackers and bottle rockets at the stores you see along the roadways of Ohio," said State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers. The annual celebration is expected to draw thousands and conclude with fireworks
If you’re heading to Miller Road Park today for ArtsFest, you’re not alone. Thousands are expected to turn out for the annual Fourth of July festival, which will conclude with a dusk fireworks show. The boat ramp and beach will be closed at 8:30 p.m. in preparation for the fireworks display. The pier will be closed to the public all day Sunday, July 3. No Parking will be permitted on Lake Road or Miller Road. More than 60 vendors will have booths at the fair including Avon Lake Patch (we’re table no. 50. Are you ready for the Fourth of July?
It looks like this will be a lovely Fourth of July Weekend. Except for the chance of storms Saturday morning, it's going to be sunny and warm, with temperatures in the 80s during the day. Fireworks in Avon will be at All Pro Freight Stadium at dusk Monday at the end of the Lake Erie Crushers' 7:05 p.m. game against the River City Rascals. Want to see the fireworks but don't want to go to the game? There will be extra parking available. Plan on making some noise at your own Fourth of July cookout? Be smart and be safe when it comes to fireworks. Also, be sensitive to your dogs and don't set off fireworks around them. Get out and enjoy events in nearby towns. Thousands expected for daylong fair, concert and fireworks
Avon Lake is getting ready for thousands to descend on Miller Road Park July 3, to celebrate the city’s annual TrueNorth Artsfest festival from 2 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. The free summer festival that combines the arts, nature, music, and the feel of a yester-year community fun-fair by day, and a “Boston-Pops” type performance and an “over Lake Erie” fireworks spectacular at dusk. Add to that the scenic backdrop of Lake Eire on the Fourth of July weekend and you have Artsfest. “(It’s) our opportunity to showcase our community pride and lakefront,” Mayor K.C. Zuber said. A busy weekend in Avon!
Take some time Friday to gather up junk mail, old papers and such. The city is holding a community shredding Saturday morning at City Hall. The Lake Erie Crushers return home Friday night for a six-game homestand. The weekend opens with a 7 p.m. game Friday at All Pro Freight Stadium against the Southern Illinois Miners, with fireworks following the game. Games are also at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 5:05 p.m. Sunday. The Avon Lions Club is holding its Fishing Derby from 8 a.m to 10 a.m. Saturday at Northgate Park. Participation is free, but you must bring your own equipment. The day's winner gets use of a loge at All Pro Freight Stadium for a Crushers game. Disaster can strike anywhere. Avon Lake is beginning to prepare for the July 4 holiday, including securing a $14,500 contract with Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions to be included in the celebration, which will be held this year on July 3. That contract was secured tonight, but not after a lengthy discussion on the amount. Similar to years past, Avon Lake will host the day-long festival, Arts Fest, at Miller Road Park, including vendors and music and concluding the celebration with the True North Chorale and Symphony Patriotic Concert performing patriotic music and fireworks at dusk. Okay, thanks. For anyone who wants to know, in downtown Akron on July 4th, the Akron Symphony plays in Lock 3 followed by fireworks. There are also great fireworks at Portage Country Club on the 4th and they let the public in for free to see them.   more ›
