Avon Eagles Sweep Vermilion Sailors in Basketball Matchup

On Feb. 15, Avon boys beat the Sailors 69-58.

The Avon High Eagles had a slow start in the Feb. 15 boys basketball game against the Vermilion Sailors. According to cleveland.com, Avon scored 8 points in the first quarter but came back to score 22 points in the second, compared to Vermilion's 13 and 7 points, respectively. The Eagles continued their hard play after halftime, making the final score 69-58. The Eagles play their last regular game of the season on Feb. 22 against the Midview Middies.

Shoremen Keep Olmsted Falls on Short Leash in Basketball Win

The Shoremen pulled ahead in the second quarter to win against the Bulldogs 54-49.

The Avon Lake High Shoremen had a fairly even start in the Feb. 15 boys basketball game against the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs. According to cleveland.com, Avon Lake scored 13 points in the first quarter and stayed strong scoring 16 points in the second, compared to Olmsted Falls' 11 and 9 points, respectively. The Shoremen continued their hard play after halftime, making the final score 54-49. The Shoremen continue their season on Feb. 19 against the Strongsville Mustangs.

Avon Lady Eagles Win Final Basketball Game of Regular Season

The Eagles flew past the Midview Middies for a final score of 67-32.

The Avon High Lady Eagles started strong and stayed that way in the Feb. 13 girls basketball game against the Midview Lady Middies. According to cleveland.com, Avon scored 20 points in the first quarter and 17 points in the second, compared to Midview's 6 and 9 points, respectively. The Eagles continued their hard play after halftime, making the final score 67-32. The Lady Eagles begin their tournament run at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23rd against Avon Lake at Elyria Catholic.

Lady Shoremen Lose to North Olmsted in Last Regular Basketball Game of Season

It was a close contest from the opening tip, but in the end, the Lady Shoreman lost by two points, 51-49.

The Avon Lake High Lady Shoremen had a commanding start in the Feb. 14 basketball game against the North Olmsted Lady Eagles. But after halftime, the scores started to reverse. According to cleveland.com, Avon Lake scored 15 points in both the first and second quarters, compared to North Olmsted's 6 and 16 points, respectively. However, after halftime, North Olmsted finished strong scoring 16 and 13 points in the third and fourth quarter, making the final score 51-49. The Lady Shoremen begin their tournament run at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23rd against Avon at Elyria Catholic.

Avon Eagles Soar Past North Olmsted in Basketball Matchup

The Eagles shot one 3-pointer after another, leading to a 70-43 win over North Olmsted.

The Avon High Eagles started strong and stayed that way in the Feb. 12 boys basketball game against the North Olmsted Eagles. According to cleveland.com, Avon scored 14 point in the first quarter and 18 points in the second, compared to North Olmsted's 5 and 8 points, respectively. The Eagles continued shooting and making several 3-pointers after halftime, making the final score 70-43. The Eagles take on Vermilion at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Vermilion. Eagles Win Avon Holiday Tournament

Senior guard R.J. Kaufmann stands out in wins over Keystone, Clearview

It's always good when you are the host of a holiday tournament, but even better to take part in and win the tourney's championship game. That's exactly what the Avon Eagles did Wednesday night when they defeated Clearview, 48-42, to win the Avon Holiday Tournament. Guard R.J. Kaufmann scored a game-high 16 points and forward Marvin Coleman added 11 points to led Avon's winning effort.  The Eagles senior scored 10 of his 16 points from the free throw line to help Avon (6-1) jump out to a 12-point lead (42-30) entering the final quarter.  Kaufmann also starred in Avon's 70-59 win over Keystone on December 27 to advance to the championship game, scoring 30 points after a five-day layoff.
