Deer Vs. Car Problem Is Not Going Away: Letter

Editor's note: Jim Moyse provided a photo of his Ford Focus after a collision with a deer. To the Editor: Thanks for the posting of the video showing Officer Cantleberry's recent meeting with an Avon Lake deer.   I recently met with one, but unlike officer Cantleberry, my insurance company had to cough up $5,500 and I was on the hook for $500.   Local government talks about not having enough money to do anything about the deer problem, but if you took an average between what it cost to repair the cruiser and what it cost to fix my Focus, local citizens have paid out $63,000 just this year on the city's highways.   I realize the state has a large role in this matter, but I plan to continue urging the city to do all it can to reduce the …

People need to be more observant when they are driving- it is not a surprise that deer are in the area. People speed down my street all the time. There are other ways to manage populations then killing. If you don't like the deer- move into a condo downtown.   more ›
