Avon Lake Resident Finds New Career Through JVS

William Benedict and three of his peers earned their phlebotomy certifications with the help of Lorain's Joint Vocational School.

Lorain County has four new phlebotomists thanks in part to the Joint Vocational School (JVS) Adult Career Center. Christopher Phillips, of Collins, William Benedict, of Avon Lake, Cory Zillyett, of Amherst and Coleen Thompson, of Amherst, were the proud recipients of the certifications, according to JVS public relations specialist Tina Salyer. Phillips completed a phlebotomy internship at Fisher-Titus Hospital, while Benedict, Thompson and Zillyett completed internships at Cleveland Clinic facilities, said Salyer. “This was an exceptional group of students,” program instructor Nancy Smith said in a prepared statement. “They all brought knowledge and skills from previous jobs and from life experiences, and they learned from each other.
