You Said It: Nagel Road Interchange Groundbreaking

Work on interchange officially underway

Thursday's official groundbreaking for the Nagel Road interchange was the end of one era and the beginning of another. Plans began more than eight years ago for an interchange at Nagel Road and Interstate 90, an idea that has been around for 16 years. Over that time, there were many sticking points including obtaining land and how the project will be financed. This year, the last obstacle -- the financing agreement -- was cleared and work is underway. For many involved in the project, Thursday's ceremony at Petitti's Garden Center was a time to reflect on what it took to get here.

Mosser Chosen to Build Nagel Interchange

ODOT made selection on Thursday

Mosser Construction was awarded the Nagel Road interchange construction contract by the Ohio Department of Transportation Thursday, Avon planning coordinator Jim Piazza announced. It wasn't a huge surprise. Mosser was the low bidder, Piazza told Avon City Council at Monday's work session, bidding $16.1 million for the project. City services director Jerry Plas told Council that he knew of Mosser from when he worked in the private sector, and that they had an very good reputation. ODOT has used Mosser on previous projects, Piazza said, and spoke highly of them. "They rank (Mosser) very high on cooperation, thoroughness, quality of work and timeliness," Piazza said. Nagel Interchange Builder to be Decided Thursday

City awaiting word from ODOT

The city will find out on Thursday who will be building the Nagel Road interchange, Avon planning coordinator Jim Piazza said at Monday's City Council meeting. The Ohio Department of Transportation opened the bids for the project on July 25 after the city approved the financing deal with Richard E. Jacobs Group for the project. Because ODOT is running the project, Piazza explained, it chooses the contractor. He will be directed to a website on Thursday to find out who got the contract. Piazza said Monday that Mosser Group, out of Fremont, was the low bidder at $16.1 million. Avon mayor Jim Smith said that, with council's approval, the city plans to hire Don Danyanic as project manager. He would serve as the city's liason on the project. He…
