Congresswoman Betty Sutton Holding Small Business Seminar April 3

Seminar is free for existing and new small businesses.

  Congresswoman Betty Sutton (D-OH 13th District) and the Small Business Administration have teamed up to provide a free presentation and panel discussion on SBA loans, selling to the government and additional support available for small business on Tuesday, April 3 from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  All small businesses and startups are welcome to the seminar at the Avon Lake Public Library. The program is another part of small business support that Sutton, the SBA and the Avon Lake Public Library is providing to assist small business in retention, growth and jobs. Avon Lake’s Joe Archacki, the president of Mainstreet Growth, was instrumental in bringing Sutton to Avon Lake. Archacki has been a strong advocate of helping local small businesses …

Avon Lake Proclaims September: Business Appreciation Month

Avon Lake businesses are the backbone of the city, mayoral proclamation says.

An economic development program to promote businesses in Avon Lake has resulted in September being proclaimed Business Appreciation Month by the city. “We had a discussion with local businesses recently, and this idea came up in our meeting,” Mayor Karl Zuber said. “We want to encourage people to buy in Avon Lake. It’s part of our long-range economic development plan.” According to a proclamation issued by the Mayor’s office, “Avon Lake businesses are the backbone of the city, and continue to drive Avon Lake towards solidifying its reputation as a business-friendly community with a great quality of life.” Avon Lake residents and the city benefit daily from the displays of charity and support for community projects by area businesses, Zuber…

Next Avon Lake Small Business Workshop Focuses on Social Media

This is the fourth in the Small Business Workshop series. The class will be at the Avon Lake library.

Are you looking for the latest trends in marketing? Should you be using social media? What is social media for business?  The Avon Lake Public Library announces the next free small business workshop in the Growing Your Business 2011 series. This workshop will be held on Thursday, June 16 at the Avon Lake Public Library, a new location for the series. The series runs from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. The subject includes marketing and social media for small businesses, including how to use LinkedIn and use profiles and company pages to promote your business. Avon Lake Economic Development Position Could Become Reality

Part-time position being sought by the mayor

A discussion to consider adding a new position at City Hall – that of a part-time economic development adviser – did an about face at the Jan. 31 Finance Committee. The concept, brought to the table by Mayor K.C. Zuber, initially received little consideration, but survived the meeting and will be discussed again at council's Economic Development Committee meeting on Feb. 3. The city also maintains a volunteer Economic Development Advisory Board which has been chaired by Joe Archacki for the past seven years. Free Business Workshop will Focus on Workers Comp

The Avon Lake Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB) is continuing with its plans to assist area business owners with a free business roundtable, this time in the morning. From 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Jan. 14, the board will host a roundtable on workers compensation issues and how it affects one's business. COSE, the Council on Small Enterprises, will provide the industry experts. In the past, the EDAB has hosted workshops, held at the Lake House, in the evenings. The January morning meeting will include a continental breakfast. "We are starting the new year with a timely topic and a change in time for this workshop to Friday morning," EDAB chairman Joe Archacki said. Joe Archacki has been the chairman of the Avon Lake Economic Development Advisory Board for eight years. His is the president of Mainstreet Growth LLC small business marketing for growth resource. Archacki recently retired as a sales and marketing executive with PPG Industries Industrial Group. He has more than 20 years of experience in the development of new business.
