Eagle Boys Basketball Begin Tournament Run Tonight

Eagle bested Midview on Feb. 22 to split conference championship title with Rocky River.

The Avon High School boys basketball team begins their tournament run on Tonight at 7:30 p.m. vs. Lorain at Midview High School after winning the conference championship on Senior Night, Feb. 22. Coach Kevin Sapara's Eagles battled Midview on Feb. 22  besting the Midview Sailors 54-50 win share the West Shore Conference championship with Rocky River. It marked the first time since 1991 Avon won the title and led to post-season action for Sapara, who is in his first year coaching. Presale tickets are available in the athletic office.  Presale tickets for ALL Adults are $6 and $4 for students. All tickets at the door are $6. Sapara Named Head Basketball Coach for Avon

Spent Three Years on Staff at Cleveland State

A Strongsville native who spent three years on the men’s basketball staff under Gary Waters at Cleveland State University has been named the head boys basketball coach at Avon High School. Kevin Sapara, who helped the Cleveland State Vikings earn two postseason berths in his three years on staff, will join the Eagles for the 2012-13 school year. “Kevin joined our staff during our first year at Cleveland State and played an integral part of helping us build the program,” Waters said. “He has a lot of basketball knowledge and will be an outstanding addition at Avon High School.” Avon Athletic Director Erich Frombach said Sapara has significant experience both as a coach and a player. “I’m really excited for Kevin,” Frombach said. “He has …
