Saturdays Kids Fest featured barbeque, facepainting and concert. Were you there?
Boxes of donated school supplies and hundreds of dollars were donated Aug 4 for the second annual Kiwanis Kidsfest at Weiss Field. Supplies which are donated to Community Resource Services for distribution to children in Avon and Avon Lake, included crayons, pencils, back packs, notebooks and other needed school supplies. G-Force will headline event, admission is donation of school supplies.
The second annual Back-to-School Kids Fest is this weekend. Last year, more than 2 truckloads of items were collected in an event that proved to be not just a fundraiser, but all kinds of fun for the family. Sponsored by the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club and headed by club vice president Kyle Maurer, the three-hour Kids Event returns to Weiss Field on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. It has all the makings of an outdoor party, down to the bar-b-que, bounce houses, fun, water balloon toss and games. The all-girl band G-Force will again headline. The event is suitable for children 2-10 years old. The event is open to the public, and families from Avon, Avon Lake and surrounding communities are welcome. The event combines good old-fashioned …

Two truckloads of school supplies collected for CRS
The first year of what is expected to be an annual tradition, the Avon Lake Kiwanis Kids Fest drew more than 200 visitors to Weiss Field July 30. Fair organizer Kyle Maurer estimated two truck loads of school supplies were donated to assist clients of Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services and more than $150 in monetary donation. "CRS will be filling backpacks this week," Maurer said. Maurer said with no advance presale tickets to guage attendance and with so many other events going on across the city on the same day, he had no idea what to expect.
