Avon Lake Lifeguard Helped in Huntington Rescue

An Avon Lake High School 2011 graduate was on hand to help rescue two swimmers at Huntington Beach on Monday.  News Channel 5 reported that 9-year-old Diamond Harris and 46-year-old Laura Recco were in the water needing help around 10:44 a.m. Monday. Christian Pesarchick, a 2011 Avon Lake High School alumnus, was a seasonal lifeguard on duty at the time. Channel 5 said Pesarchick needed some assistance in the rough water as well. "I'm proud of him; he jumped in and saved two people," said his father, Mark Pesarchick. The elder Pesarchick said he didn't think Christian Pesarchick needed to be rescued himself. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragic event. According to the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project there have been 33 fatal drownings on the Great Lakes so far this year, last year there were 87.
