After 25 Years, 'Miss Laura' Gets Her Retirement Party

Laura's Learning Treehouse will host an anniversary party/retirement party this Saturday.

Back in the day, when Avon was just a small rural town on the verge of turning into the growing suburb it is today, Laura Andrews saw the need for a local day-care center. On April 1, 1987, when her daughter Shannon was in second grade, Andrews founded Laura’s Learning Treehouse on Colorado Boulevard. Twenty-five years later, the booming suburb of Avon has dramatically changed, but the daycare center has kept close to its roots. “Miss Laura” retired several years ago, but sold the business to her daughter Shannon Scheetz, now grown and married. Scheetz, recognizing that her mother never had a proper retirement party, is hoping to get families and past students of the daycare center together this (Friday). The celebration will be twofold: …
