Saturday Meeting Will Explore Community Wood Working Shop

Meeting will gauge interest for an Artstown Plaza community workshop

Would you like access to a woodworking shop, equipment and expert help? You are invited to the first community workshop meeting at Avon Lake Public Library, Saturday Jan. 26 to explore the option of creating a Community Workshop in Avon Lake. The concept of "Woodworking Made Simple" is being explored by Avon Lake businessman Tom Patton, who owns Artstown Plaza on the west end of town, and along with his wife Tomie, manages Commerce Benefits Group. In April 2011, Patton told Avon Lake Patch he was interested in using the space formerly inhabited by the closed Avon Lake Theater as a train museum. Pastry chef Terry Houdeshell will teach you the techniques to make your own edible masterpieces on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Bring one to two dozen unfrosted cupcakes and everything else will be supplied including frosting, pastry bag, couplers and tips. The members of this club are photographers of various skill levels who use a wide variety of formats to capture their images. Historical Collection at Avon Lake Library Unveiled on Sunday

A new collection of older Avon Lake historic pieces is being unveiled this weekend and the public is invited for a viewing at the library. The Avon Lake Local History Art Collection includes more than 40 items, including original paintings, historic photographs, prints and several primitive renderings that illustrate the history of Avon Lake and Lorain County, Avon Lake Public Library, the Lake Shore Electric Railway and Avon Beach Park Resort, and shipping and shipwrecks on Lake Erie.
