An Avon Lake woman is donating her winnings from blogging on ThoughtsFurPaws.com to Love-A-Stray, the no-kill shelter that supports Avon and Avon Lake animals. Jaime Lynn Smith recently chose Avon Lake’s Love-A-Stray Animal Rescue to receive a $2,500 cat food donation from Royal Canin, which makes premium dog and cat food. Her blog, ThoughtsFurPaws.com, shares personal stories to educate, advocate and help her readers learn more about animals and their well-being. 400 dogs, 500 people, enjoy a day in the pool.
After a wet and windy morning on Sept. 8, the rains stopped and both the sun--and the dogs came out to enjoy the annual Big Splash event at the Avon Lake Municipal Pool. "It turned out to be a perfect day," Love-A-Stray founder and event organizer Connie Field said. "Early estimates show approximately 400 dogs and 500 people (attended). This year the event added a couple of new "elements" that really made a positive impact, Field said. "An awesome D.J., Jon Heasley with Eazy-N-Crew Music Productions, really jazzed up our event with great music, and he also helped by announcing contests times and raffle basket winners. Jon donated his time in the name of non-profit rescue." In addition to opening the pool--which closed for the season the…

Love-A-Stray looking for a special owner for a special-needs cat
Molly's not a cat for just anyone. She's had a hard life, and came to Love-A-Stray with such bad eye problems that one eye had to be removed and the other one needed surgery. Other than being functionally blind, Molly is healthy and a bit on the petite side. Molly needs an owner who can commit to her care and doesn't have any other cats. Molly's very sweet and loves people. If you're interested in Molly, or would like to see other cats and kittens available for adoption, contact Love-A-Stray at loveastray@gmail.com. You can also donate money to help cover the costs of medical care for cats like Molly, spaying/neutering cats, food, litter and health care.

Black-and-white cat given up after one of the children in his home developed allergies
Poor Plato. Happy in the home he was adopted into last year, the young adult cat is back at the Love-A-Stray shelter because the boy in the family developed eczema, which was a result of being allergic to cats. So now Plato is seeking a home where he'll only bring love, not sneezes or itches. If you're interested in Plato, or would like to see other cats and kittens available for adoption, contact Love-A-Stray at loveastray@gmail.com. You can also donate money to help cover the costs of spaying/neutering cats, food, litter and health care.

Young tabby is cute and playful
Fergie is a young female tabby, just a little over a year old. She came to the Love-A-Stray shelter with her two kittens, both of which have since been adopted. Now, Fergie is fixed (like all Love-A-Stray cats are), and she's ready for her own forever home. Check out the video to see just how nice she is! If you're interested in Fergie, or would like to see other cats and kittens available for adoption, contact Love-A-Stray at loveastray@gmail.com. You can also donate money to help cover the costs of spaying/neutering cats, food, litter and health care.
