An Avon High School student was named as 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholar candidate. The candidate is Madeline R. DiFilippo, according to a list of candidates posted on the U.S. Presidential Scholars web site. In September, DiFilippo was named a National Merit Semifinalist. DiFilippo was selected from a pool of thousands of students across the U.S. named as candidates in the annual Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation's highest honors for graduating seniors. Application to the program is by invitation only, and based on ACT and SAT scores. More than 141 will be selected as scholars by a commission appointed by President Barack Obama. The students will learn if they are chosen in May.
