Avon Lake/Avon Community-Wide Food Drive Raises $7,459

Almost 4,500 pounds of food donated.

Editor's note: Martin O'Donnell is also the president of Avon Lake City Council and helped organize the food drive. To the Editor: A very special thank you to the residents of Avon Lake and Avon for their support in the second annual March Away Hunger food drive benefiting CRS.  The month long food drive collected 4,493 pounds of food valued at $7,459.40.  This surpassed last year’s total by over 300 pounds!  With summer fast approaching, a major food drive is just what CRS needed to stock up their pantry. CRS Sees 37% Need Increase Before Second 'March Away Hunger'

Avon Lake Community Council is again asking neighbors, students, churches, organizations and businesses in Avon Lake and Avon to join their second annual communitywide food drive, March Away Hunger, during the month of March, to benefit Community Resource Services (CRS), which provides staple items to individuals and families in need in Avon and Avon Lake. The drive is sponsored by the Avon Lake Community Council. The 2012 March Away Hunger drive brought in 4,158 pounds of food valued at $6,663 for CRS. “It is my understanding that there is a 50 percent drop in federal donations for food pantries, yet the need is increasing for families,” President of Avon Lake Community Council Martin O’Donnell, said. “If we can assist in keeping the …

A very special thank you to our community for their support in the recent March Away Hunger food drive, benefiting CRS. This drive was truly a community effort with the 23 Avon Lake Community Council organizations, Avon Lake City Schools, Avon Lake City, Safety and Utilities employees, along with First Federal of Lakewood, The Commerce Benefits Group and Giant Eagle coming together to assist families in need in Avon Lake. This month long food drive in March collected 4,158 pounds of food valued at $6,663. With food assistance requests up 29 percent this past year, a major food drive is just what CRS needed to stock their pantry going into the summer months. March Away Hunger with CRS Food Drive

Avon Lake Community Council is asking neighbors, students, churches, organizations and businesses in Avon Lake to join their community-wide food drive, March Away Hunger, during the month of March, to benefit Community Resource Services (CRS). “Our organizations individually have always been involved in assisting those in need, running programs, scholarships for youth, etc, in our community,” Marty O’Donnell, president of the Avon Lake Community Council said. “We just decided to pull our resources together to address the community hunger issue noted by CRS.” The purpose of Avon Lake Community Council is to promote community organizations in Avon Lake through the sharing of ideas, events, and membership for the betterment of the community …
